Check out Glen's new music...

Toad the Wet Sprocket front man Glen Phillips (and special musical guest at our event) released his latest solo record, There Is So Much Here, in November 2022, and this record dives into the joys and sorrows of everyday life with help from Dave Depper (Death Cab For Cutie), Ji Tanzer (Blue Cranes) and John Morgan Askew.

“I’ve seldom allowed myself to stay in one place for very long,” Glen says, explaining the genesis of this new album. “I was lucky during the COVID lockdown to move in with my girlfriend, now fiancée, and to stay home for the longest stretch I’ve had since the birth of my daughter, 20 years ago. After a life of travel and seeking out peak experiences, I began to appreciate the subtle beauty of sitting still.”

The 11 tracks on Phillips’ new album are informed by the time that the pandemic shut down allowed for reflection, moving between quiet love songs and rockers that consider the multi-faceted meanings hidden in our everyday lives.

Here's the official video for "I Was a Riot," a song that casts a compassionate eye on the end of a relationship with a hint of new wave ska in its rhythm.  Enjoy!

Where to stay when you come play...

For those coming in from out-of-state or those who plan to spend more than the one evening in town for our event on Friday, April 28th, there are a number of places that offer overnight accommodations, from rustic to a little more refined.  Follow the links below for rates and availability...

Closest are the cabins, cottages, and lodge rooms at Gold Country Campground Resort, at 13026 Tabeaud Road in Pine Grove.

Next are the rooms at nearby Jackson Rancheria Casino and Resort, off of Highway 88.

The town of Jackson sports the usual hotel faire with the Best Western Amador Inn and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jackson, and local favorites like the National Hotel Jackson, and The Jackson Lodge.

Nearby Sutter Creek has the charm of The Inn at 161, Hanford House, Hotel Sutter, The Foxes Inn of Sutter Creek B&B, the Eureka Street Inn, and Kiota Inn.

Stay the night, or plan to make a weekend or more of it, and take time to explore this part of California's gold country that we've come to call home.

A Goal without a Plan is just a Wish...

Many of the people that I would hope to have here in California to celebrate my upcoming 60th birthday with me live far enough away that a little time to plan would be both helpful and necessary.

This page will contain useful information for folks to get it together and make the arrangements to come join Anthony and me at our home in Pine Grove, California on Friday, April 28, 2023.

The "event" will include a private, in-home concert by Glen Phillips, lead singer of my favorite band, Toad the Wet Sprocket, as an aside from his usual touring schedule.  Guests may arrive as early as 6:00pm; Glen will begin set-up at 7:00pm, and the concert will begin at 8:00pm that evening.  You'll be free to stick around after the show before we start kicking people out around 11:00pm.  😁
  • "Save the Date" cards for family and friends will be in the US Mail by New Year's Day 2023.
  • Formal invitations will follow in early March 2023, with RSVPs due by 3/31/23.
Heads up:
  • The nearest airport is Sacramento International (SMF) about 70 miles away.
  • Information regarding lodging accommodations in the town of Pine Grove and nearby Jackson, CA will be posted here.
I'll be taking some time off from work both before and after the event, to connect with those guests who will be staying around to enjoy the California gold country for a bit.

I hope you can make it.  More to come... stay tuned!
